The Next Step...

Okay...what if our fave X-Men all took the next step in their personal evolution, bringing their powers and abilities to ultimate strength? What would happen? For example, take a look at this Storm, from Uncanny#147.


What would happen to Nightcrawler? Wolverine? Colossus? Shadowcat? Magneto? Xavier? Cyclops? Beast? Angel? Iceman? The Rest?

Hmmm this makes for some interesting speculation KNIGHT_CRAWLER!

ICEMAN full potential we've caught glimpses of. Truly a POWERHOUSE.(Part of the reason I cant wait to see him full power in uncanny!)

Ditto with STORM.

COLOSSUS full power would've been interesting (and awesome!) I envision him being just this massive, tank-like leviathan!

Kurt and some of the others i'd have to think about...('MIT had a pretty cool version of an 'Ultimate' Nightcrawler)

I've been thinking about this, I know, don't strain myself, and I don't think I'd want to see them powered up. I know this is hypothetical and all but that example KC posted of Storm is the reason why I wouldn't want them all-powerful.

I dug out my Essential and reread that issue. Storm almost lost her soul to that much power, just like Phoenix. I know Phoenix wasn't Jean and all but the premise holds. To quote a recent X-Men and a tired cliche, 'absolute power corrupts absolutely.' I know that's not true for all of them, like Iceman. But I remember he had lots of problems with all that extra power. And Gambit's power-up supposedly endangered himself and had the potential to endanger the world.

Plus, I think making them stronger does nothing for their characters. Throwing power at a problem instead of trying to think their ways out of it gets bo-ring!

Besides, some of them don't need any more power! I think Storm. Polaris, Magneto, Nate Grey and Havok to name a few are plenty powerful without any power augmentations.

Or mebbe I'm just being una agua fiesta, no?

A water party? I was just getting some creative juices flowing. And if everyone had that absolute power it wouldn't be nearly as corrupting. I'm not, in any way, suggesting that anyone gets a power up. I think power increases are boring too, it all seems like a bad copout for bad writing. I was just wondering what people thoughtour fave characters would be like if they took that next step somehow, becoming Godlike.

Nightcrawler takes some serious thought... about as extreme as he could get would probably be able to teleport any object at will, and/or to be able to go where he pleases, as far as he pleases, without actually having to have been there previously. (I'm lacking much imagination for any augmentation for Kurt).

I picture Wolverine being a walking, superhealing soldier, unstoppable and practically invincible. (Kind of scary, when you think about it).

I've had a little time to think, and here's what I could come up with...

Xavier was already maxed out with Onslaught. *Shivers*

Angel seemed to be more maxed out when he was in cahoots with Apocalypse, especially with his steel wings. (Not to mention, he looked MUCH cooler. )

Beast might gain more strength and intelligence, but imagining him like this is still a challenge...

Cyclops might be able create explosive blasts with his beam; (I realize his power is strictly a force beam).

Any other ideas that I may have come up with have been lost throughout the week. (Must have been the food.) Feel free to comment any any ideas. (PLEASE!!)

I think that maybe Cyclops would basically become pure energy, being able to blast from any or all parts of his body, or his entire body. These force blasts would be able to level mountain ranges or knock the moon out of orbit. He would truly be a force to reckon with. Maybe he could basically become the beam, and therefore travel at the speed of light, by "riding" his blasts. Anybody have any ideas as to anyone else?
